Here's a little something I've been annoying my opponents with:

Wookies ruined my carpet!

http://www.cardgamedb.com/index.php/starwars/star-wars-deck-...

It's a pure Smugglers deck with 10 Wookie units total. As long as you manage to have one Wookie Life Debt out, you're pretty much going to steamroll with it. I've been tinkering with some variations, but this particular deck has bee loads of fun to play...

I play a very similar deck but with "Renegade Squadron Mobilization" (Echo Caverns) instead of "A Wookiee's Journey". I've had great success with it.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I actually ended up looking into Force Packs a little sooner than I expected, because I was short of free shipping now that I'm not grabbing Balance of the Force, so I ended up ordering:

1x Core, 1x Edge of Darkness, 1x Heroes & Legends, 1x Lure of the Dark Side, and 1x Knowledge & Defense

For other people in my same boat, here's my logic: the Hoth Cycle was a non-starter for me because so many of the cards rely on the Hoth keyword (makes more sense to acquire the whole cycle if I'm going to acquire anything). Echoes of the Force, on the other hand, is fairly generic (granted with a heavy focus on Force battles), and had some of my favorite EU characters; Kyle Katarn, Jan Ors, and Mara Jade? Yes, please!

I ended up with three packs instead of the two I was planning on to keep the factions a little more balanced. If you buy the entire cycle, you get double sets of 5 objectives for every faction (no neutrals in this cycle). With the three above, you get 2x Imperial Navy, 3x Sith, 2x Scum & Villainy, 2.5x Rebel Alliance (one of the rebel sets is very Hoth-focused, so I'm not really counting it), 2x Jedi, and 3x Smugglers & Spies.

The whole card set offers starter decks for every faction, with a total objective set breakdown as follows:

* 10 Imperial Navy (8 singletons, 2 doubles)
* 11 Sith (8 singletons, 3 doubles)
* 10 Scum & Villainy (8 singletons, 2 doubles)
* 5 dark neutral (singletons)

* 11 Rebel Alliance (8 singletons, 3 doubles -- one of which is Hoth focused)
* 10 Jedi (8 singletons, 2 doubles)
* 11 Smugglers & Spies (8 singletons, 3 doubles)
* 5 light neutral (singletons)

Not much flexibility in deck building, but I suspect once I'm done with the starter decks that will be enough of a card pool to make some reasonably interesting faction-based decks to have on hand. Which is exactly what I want.

CardGameDB and this spread sheet were very helpful resources for figuring out how many objectives of various factions are in each set.

Somewhat situational depending on your local meta. That said, I won a small tournament with the following:
2 Vader
2 Palpatine
2 Executor
2 Mara
2 Plans of the prophetess

I have lately taken out Mara and put in the newest pod. The cultists one. I only got to play one game with it, but it performed very well.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. My SO only plays with and looking to make her a competitive deck.

I can't argue with Vader, Palpatine and Executor. All fine choices. I'm looking forward to that new one with the cultists from Light & Darkness (in the mail) to see how it pairs with Executor. I also enjoy a good "Killing Cold"...

Just, fair warning on that spread, the Dash Rendar pod and The False Report synergize to an almost broken degree.

So, you're probably going to want to avoid using both. But, you should have enough cards to make a S&S deck using only one of those.

Jerec's pod is also really interesting. Not sure if it's one of the power pods, but bouncing units off the force with him works really well.

Thanks for the warning! I'll make sure to keep those two separate (or at least in low quantities).

The mechanic issue is Aquaris Freeholders and Holding all the Cards.

Aquaris Freeholders is a cost 8 non-unique unit with 5 icons and 4 health. It's also elite, because it wasn't terrifying enough. And, it's cost is reduced by 1 for each card in your opponent's hand. Also it appears twice in the pod.

Rendar's Pod has two copies of Holding All the Cards. It's a 0 cost event that causes all players to draw two cards immediately... And that, ladies and gentlemen is how you can both mine for, and play multiple cost 8 units for free.

And, thus we have the first restricted cards in the game, you can pick one or the other for a tournament deck, but not both.

A lot of people, myself included, think there's something in the cycle that will make this play risky. That Against all Odds or The False Report got moved up and the counter just isn't in game yet. Though, it's possible that play testing, this just didn't reveal itself, somehow.

..on your very first turn of the game, even! I don't think we'll see those two unrestricted for a long time - it isn't a healthy combination, and if there's a silver bullet that was intended anywhere for that combo in the Echoes of the Force cycle, I'm not seeing it even now that all packs have been released.

My own conspiracy theory remains that one of the original cards in the pack was a problem in development and substituted last minute for a second copy of a different card (Holding all the Cards should have been a one-off).

Hit and Run is a "Limit 1" objective. Did you mean another pod?
